Simone de Beauvoir on Self- Consciousness - Dictionary of Arguments
Brocker I 303 Self-Consciousness/Beauvoir: "The subject only sits down by opposing itself: it has the claim to assert itself as the essential and to constitute the other as the unessential, as an object" (1). Whereby, of course, the other consciousness appears with the same claim. Kuster: Beauvoir is influenced by contemporary philosophers, especially Kojève.
